Bomb Threat at Joseph Kerr Middle School

At approximately 1 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, a student at Joseph Kerr Middle School reported she received an anonymous text stating, “There is a bomb at Kerr Middle School. I recommend you get out now.” The phone number the text was received from was unknown to the student, and no information or history with the number was located in law enforcement databases.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s School Resource Officers responded, and the school was placed on lockdown. The Sheriff’s Threat Management Unit (TMU) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were advised of the call. An exterior search of the campus was conducted and nothing suspicious was located. In an abundance of precaution, bomb detection K9s from the Folsom Dam were requested to assist in searching the interior rooms of the campus. Students were evacuated to the gym and multi-purpose room during the search.

A controlled dismissal took place as K9s continued to search the remainder of the campus. The campus checked clear of any suspicious items, and all students were off campus by approximately 5:15 PM. Deputies will conduct a follow-up investigation with the assistance of TMU.
