Man Arrested in Zinfandel Drive Homicide

Just after 10:15 PM on Sunday, April 14, 2024, Officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department and Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a gas station parking lot on the 2800 block of Zinfandel Drive for a fight in the parking lot.  Upon their arrival, Officers discovered an unresponsive adult male lying on the ground.  They immediately began to administer first-aid until Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.  Simultaneously, Deputies located a suspect nearby, matching the description given by callers.  The suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Anthony Cervantes, was detained without incident.

Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased a short time later at the scene.  Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, began their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence.  Upon completion of their investigation, Detectives formally arrested Cervantes for murder.  The victim’s identity will be made available by the Coroner’s Office.

Cervantes was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains ineligible for bail.  He is scheduled to appear in court on April 17, 2024.
