Homicide on Sutterwoods Way Deemed a Murder-Suicide

Just after 11 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025, Sacramento County Sheriff’s East Division Patrol Deputies responded to assist the Sacramento Metro Fire District with a call for service of a possible double suicide, where two subjects had gunshot wounds.  The reporting party advised that he arrived at the residence to conduct a welfare check after his friend, later identified as 33-year-old Jesse Janda, had not shown up to meet him for golf the day before and had not been heard from in a few days.  Deputies arrived on scene and discovered two adult males, including Janda, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses.  Detectives observed two expended shell casings next to Janda, who was still holding a handgun underneath his body.  Based on the evidence at the scene and the Coroner’s preliminary autopsy findings, Detectives believe this was a murder-suicide at Janda’s hand.  This investigation is ongoing, as Detectives have yet to determine a motive.

The victim’s identity will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office in accordance with their protocols.
