Just after 4 PM on Sunday, June 15, 2025, a resident on the 6100 block of Hilltop Drive in Carmichael reported seeing an adult male attempting to remove a home surveillance camera from the front of their home. The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Gabriel Ramosmascarenas, went to the backyard when the homeowner confronted him. Ramosmascarenas then ran into an adjacent neighbor’s backyard when that neighbor confronted him.
As Sheriff’s North Area Patrol Deputies arrived on scene, Ramosmascarenas ran into that neighbor’s home and barricaded himself inside, as the resident remained in the backyard. Deputies learned there may have been a gun inside the residence and attempted to call him out for nearly two hours, also employing the use of armored vehicles, air support, and drones. Deputies continued their efforts to entice Ramosmascarenas to surrender peacefully, to no avail.
Once Deputies were able to gain a visual of the suspect inside the residence, Sheriff’s K9 Niko apprehended Ramosmascarenas and he was taken into custody without further incident. Ramosmascarenas was medically cleared for incarceration from a local area hospital and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for burglary. He is currently being held in custody with a $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 17.
The suspect’s booking photo is unavailable for public release, per California law.
