At approximately 4:30 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Central Division Patrol Deputies responded to the area of 39th Street and Mascot Avenue in South Sacramento to the report of a shooting. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered an adult male shot multiple times. They began to render medical aid, and the victim was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the hospital a short time later.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and began their investigation. Detectives determined the suspect, 51-year-old Okouava Saelee, had an argument with the victim, with whom he was acquainted. Saelee then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot the victim several times. Saelee then fled the area in his vehicle.
Detectives obtained a Ramey arrest warrant for Saelee, and Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau Detectives were able to locate and arrest him in Sacramento earlier today. Saelee was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains in custody, ineligible for bail.
The victim’s identity will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office in accordance with their protocols.
