Just after 4 PM last Friday, August 8, 2025, a 21-year-old female called 911, stating that she had been robbed at gunpoint near Elkhorn Boulevard and Thomas Drive. Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies arrived on scene and learned the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old gang member Garry Ward, fled on foot. Deputies set up a perimeter and began a K9 search of the area for Ward.
Within minutes, Sheriff K9 Falco located Ward hiding in a nearby backyard, allowing Deputies to take him safely into custody. Ward was medically cleared for incarceration before being booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 22.
Sheriff K9 Falco just completed field training and became fully certified with POST on August 1, and Ward was his first apprehension.
