Armed Gunman Arrested by Sheriff’s Swat Team in East Sacramento County Neighborhood

Just after 11 PM last night (August 25), East Division Patrol Deputies responded to a shooting call on the 9500 block of Helio Drive in East Sacramento County. A caller reported that a male, later identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Watkins, had fired off several rounds from a gun and was walking around the residential neighborhood shirtless while holding a rifle and a handgun. Deputies also learned he pointed his gun at a vehicle that happened to be driving through the neighborhood.

With the assistance of CHP - Valley Division Air Operations AIR21, Elk Grove Police Department K9, and Sheriff’s drone units, Deputies set up containment in the area until Sheriff’s SED (SWAT) arrived on scene. SED (SWAT) Deputies moved in and took Watkins into custody without further incident. Deputies recovered the rifle and handgun Watkins was using; a subsequent search revealed several more firearms, which were booked for safekeeping.

Watkins was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail for multiple felony charges and is being held on $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 28.
