Three People Shot to Death in Botched Robbery Inside of a Carmichael Apartment

At approximately 7 AM on August 31, 2025, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call for service regarding an apartment with apparent bullet holes and possible deceased individuals inside. Deputies responded to an apartment unit located at 4828 El Camino Avenue and discovered three deceased adult males inside, all in their 20s. Each of the males had sustained gunshot wounds, and firearms were located next to them. An 18-year-old male resident from that apartment was detained at the scene.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and assumed the investigation. Despite the significant delay caused by Mercy Housing, Detectives authored and served a warrant to obtain video footage from the apartment complex. With that video, Detectives were able to identify a key witness, who was located and questioned.

Based on their investigation, Detectives learned that one of the decedents was allegedly being robbed by two other males. During the altercation, one of the males was shot and killed by one of the two armed robbers. The surviving male resident then fired his weapon, fatally wounding both of the armed robbers.

The witness located from the surveillance video independently corroborated the sequence of events. The delay caused Detectives to process the scene in a manner that was unnecessarily more time-consuming than if they had spoken to the witness earlier.

Following consultation with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Detectives determined that the facts did not meet the criteria for a murder charge, and no other homicide-related charges are being filed at this time.

All four subjects involved in this incident, between the three decedents and the surviving resident, were illegally armed with a handgun, as they all had prior felony convictions. The 18-year-old detained, Jaylen Davis, was on active Probation and ankle monitor, for possession of a loaded handgun. He was subsequently taken into custody for firearm-related charges.

Since his arrest is for a “non-violent” offense, Davis’s booking photo is prohibited from release, per California law.
